My delicious birthday cake... with exactly 23 candles on it.

For my actual birthday my mom and Fern came over with my yummy cake. Omar made chili on the hottest day of the year. Granted it was really good, it was just WAYY hot for such a meal. My aunt and uncle came over with gifts and conversation and then my brother came over when he got off work and we all watched a movie. It was nice. The next week I went out to dinner with my dad and Omar's sister and then the next day we took off to the zoo. Now it was already like 1,000 degrees here and we thought that by sneaking off to San Diego we might be spared. But we were wrong. The heat followed us. And needless to say, I hate the zoo. It's just plain depressing. All the animals have this bored look on their face. Not to mention the gnarly hills and inclines that we had to push the double stroller with both kids in for a combined weight total of about 50-ish pounds. Not cool. Lunch was a whole other story. When we got into the zoo I was unaware that you could bring your own food. So when we finally sat down to eat our burger and fries, 2 drinks, and a salad it all totaled to $35. It literally made me sick, because by the time we left the place, I had a roaring headache and felt nauseous. It was gross, it really was. The weather didn't help either. Somewhere in between hiking up the asphalt to see a polar bear that wasn't even there and walking to the parking lot the sun had disappeared and it was overcast and sprinkling all the while, the temp still around 90 degrees, GROSS! Anyway, the kids seemed to have fun. Landon's favorite parts were the gorillas and the snakes. He's a boy what can I say. Ava just liked to point at the animals and growl at them.
So after we left the zoo, we went to go to our hotel to rest a little before dinner. And then we got lost... I was sooo not in the mood for this. We finally get to our room, crank on the air conditioner and I pass out on the bed for about a half hour to see if I can sleep on the massive headache. Doesn't work. So I somehow manage to pull myself together and wrangle up the kids to go to Coronado Island where we are to have dinner at my all time favorite place Miguel's Cocina (you have to try the jalapeno white cheese sauce, SOO GOOD!) and after finding a parking spot about 4 blocks away, we start walking to the place. Then it starts raining. So here we are, walking in shorts and tank tops, the kids all sweaty with their tongues out to catch the rain and me feeling like I'm about to hurl any second. We finally get there just in time to wait another 35 minutes and I pretty much have my head between my knees. Landon was sticking his hands and sweater in a water fountain while Ava was picking up leaves and handing them to Megan (did I mention my brother and his girlfriend were with us the entire time? I was out of it.). We finally get called to our table and that's when it starts to hit me, hard. All the smells and lighting really got to me. So I ordered my food to go (I wouldn't dare waste a trip to my fave restaurant and not even eat so I thought I'd save it for later) and make a quick trip to the bathroom just to be safe. Then decide to wait outside. All the while, my family is inside eating all this delectable food and I'm outside watching as people fail at parallel parking. Anyway, long story short, we get back to our hotel I lay down and then run to the bathroom, hurl, pee my pants and hurl some more. Then I shower and then sleep. It wasn't how I planned my special birthday trip but that's what happened. I'm special I know. I later apologized to everyone for being such a downer our entire trip. When we got home the next day, we found that our a/c wasn't working, it was 109 degrees and the water at the pool was like bath water. However, my husband being the super man that he is, fixed the a/c and then took us out for ice cream. :)
Happy Birthday to me!
