Shout Out

This guy right here is amazing. AH-mazing I tell you. Since being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes we have both kicked in gear. Literally, eating better, reading labels, throwing out junk and resisting junk, EXERCISING!! Huge milestone in this house. He has been going to the gym at least 3 times a week for an hour to an hour and a half of pure cardio. I have not, but have still managed to lose a significant amount of weight as a result of my better eating habits. Back to Omar, he continues to amaze me. I see change daily in him. He didn't see it until this past Sunday when he was getting ready for church, put his church shirt on and wouldn't you know it. He was practically swimming in it. I could fit in there with him. It's been really awesome to witness it and be able to share in the triumph with him. His last appointment was yesterday and went REALLY well. His doctor was so proud of him. His cholesterol was at 193 last month and as of yesterday was 161!! And his A1C (hemoglobin) was at a 10 last time, which could basically give the doctor clearance to start him on insulin ASAP however his doctor didn't want to do that because he was so young and she felt he could do it without it. This past appointment the A1C was at a 7.5, that number surprised us all because usually patients don't see a change for 3 months and this was barely at a 2 month mark. Simply amazing. We made another HUGE change in the way we prepare our food and invested in Saladmaster cookware which basically is the coolest thing ever. I have made fried chicken like 4 times and all 4 times I used ZERO oil. You read that right, ZERO. I've done veggies without any seasoning or butter and they are seriously the BEST vegetables I've ever had. We went out to dinner with his bosses a couple weeks back at some steak house that was at minimum $35 a plate and the veggies SUCKED. We were super disappointed and yet smiling on the inside because we knew ours were better. If you've never heard of it, check it out. Its the best decision we've made yet and I love cooking on it and knowing that I'm making healthier decisions for me and my family. I'm tellin ya, we're on a roll. Its definitely a long time coming, but its better late than never. Combined, we've lost a total of 40 lbs. Depending on who's scale we're on ;) I know that Thursday and Friday are going to really tempt us but together I think we'll be okay. We have each other to lean on and support.
And on Monday we celebrate 7 years of marriage :)
