Its already half way through September and I have yet to blog about it ;) But its okay. It's been a blah month. Except for the fact that the 2 men that helped raise me celebrated their birthdays this month! Most people know that Ed isn't biologically my dad, but I love him just the same. I've been calling him dad since I was 3 and to me, he is MY dad. He was the one that helped me with homework (even though half the time I was sooo irritated that it took him 45 minutes to explain it to me using "big" words.), he was the one that went to the parent/teacher conferences and had a serious talk with the teacher when I brought home my first C (I'm STILL embarrassed about that), he was the one that decided it would be a good idea that I take my first driver's lesson in downtown San Bernardino (I'm a better driver because of it), and he was the one that threatened the boys that I brought home ;)
What can I say? He's my dad :)
The other main male influence in my life growing up has been my grampa. I remember once being scolded by him because I had snuck the tums out of his bathroom and had decided to eat them all. Candy? I also remember him showing me how to properly mow a lawn, keep a house clean, be on time to EVERYTHING, and that Raisin Bran is the BEST cereal in the world. Once I had gotten my permit to drive, he used to toss his keys at me and say "lets go get a hougie." Oddly enough, the relationship that he had with my gramma was the only functional relationship that I saw on a regular basis growing up. Which is weird/funny to say because they would usually bicker on a day to day basis and whenever my grampa would leave somewhere he would call out to my gramma, "be back soon!" and she'd say in response, "don't threaten me!" Lol. I knew it was all in fun though. They showed affection sometimes, rarely in the presence of their grandkids. If anything, it was usually a peck on the cheek. But nonetheless, it was only happy marriage that I saw and remember.
