Married, working mom of 2 healthy kids who actively wears stretch. Que Fancy!

?? lbs Less

In my last blog I mentioned my new found hobby aka using the gym. Well, I'm going to be honest here and say I stopped going. Reason #1- the only time I could actually go to the gym was when Omar got home. Reason #2- Omar gets home around 7, I would leave around 730, get home an hour later, tuck the kids in and spend an hour tops with my husband. :( Reason #3- P90X makes me sweat more. So, after reviewing those reasons, I decided to dedicate myself to P90X and to counting calories. I'm using myfitnesspal.com to help me gage how many I needed to eat and burn based on my weight. Turns out I'm good for 1500 calories. It also turns out that after an entire day, I usually only consume about 600 leaving me to wonder what I should be eating instead. So I've been snacking a lot more and being conscientious of what how many calories I'm eating and if it benefits me at all. A lot of learning going on here.

Like today I went grocery shopping and instead of just grabbing things off the shelf like I usually do, I would grab, read the label and then decide. Exciting right?! And as if it was destiny, I finished my P90X workouts (plural) just in time to catch a re run of Oprah which happened to be about food. Naturally it caught my attention. Here's a couple things I learned from that;
1) Eat food. [easy enough right?]
2) Don't eat anything that your great-grandmother wouldn't recognize as food. [ex. gogurt. what is that?]
3) Avoid food products containing ingredients that a third grader cannot pronounce. [harder than you think]
4) Eat only foods that will eventually rot. [look up the shelf life of a twinkie, GROSS]
5. Eat all the junk food you want as long as you can cook it yourself. [ how often are YOU willing to make french fries?]

Anyway, so I don't remember how to credit my sources anymore so thank you to Michael Pollan for those great tips. :) Hopefully the next time yo go to the store you pay attention to this little gem.
